In terms of how much does a personal trainer cost in Virginia, the prices will range from $25 per session up to $150 per session.
With such a wide range of available pricing, we can break down those costs to give you a better idea of what you are looking for.
Personal trainer cost in Virginia will vary based on location. Busier, higher income, more populated cities like Northern Virginia, Virginia Beach, etc will have higher per session rates than smaller cities.
Although you won’t see the $300 per session rate like you do in LA or New York, certain trainers will charge over $100 per session in Virginia.

Many trainers like to advertise a lower price to get you in the door, but that session might only be for 30 minutes.

Monthly Reoccurring Plan
A monthly reoccurring plan is usually the best option for the trainee and trainer. As you can see, coaches will take two different approaches with this pricing option.
For reference, I made up this $100 per session charge because the math was easy to do in my head.
One might keep the same rate regardless on how many times you workout each week, while another might give you a discount to incentivize you to come more times per week.
The advantage to you is that you get locked into your times each week and are committed to show up and stay consistent with your workouts.
For the trainer, it helps to know what income is coming in each month and what their availability will look like for that month.
Session packages seem to be fading out, but were always the staple of big commercial gyms.
They would pressure you to buy a high ticket package at a discounted rate.
The discounted rate was nice, but it’s difficult for many people to spend thousands of dollars at one time for training.
That’s another advantage of the monthly reoccurring plan. It’s a smaller upfront commitment, and you know exactly how much you will pay each month so you can work it into your expenses.
Session packages are useful to people that travel often and can’t commit to the same times each week on a monthly plan.
For pay as you go, this would be if you want to try out a trainer, are only in town for a short time, or if you want to learn something quick that will only take a session or two.
The personal trainer cost in Virginia may fluctuate based on how long of a commitment you want to do.
The upfront work for a trainer to build your workout and nutrition program takes time so they will often want a commitment of at least 3 months.
It’s very common for a trainer to give you a 3, 6 and 12 month pricing option, with a cheaper rate for the longer you commit.
When deciding how long to work with a trainer, take into account how long it will take you to start seeing results.
The last piece that will dictate the personal trainer cost in Virginia is their experience and availability.
Newer trainers will often give cheaper rates either because they are trying to build their business or they are not comfortable charging more.
An experienced trainer will know what they are worth and are confident with their pricing. These trainers usually have less availability and will have to work with your schedule to see if they can work with you.
To determine the experience of a personal trainer, it’s a good idea to:
- Check their website and learn about how long they have been in business.
- Read their testimonials on different review sites such as Google and Yelp.
- Look for transformation photos of previous clients.
